American Welcome to the first edition of “The Hot Lap” which is the newsletter affiliated to our race website for Hankscraft Incorporated headquartered in Reedsburg Wisconsin. The primary intention of this site is to provide you, the race fan or curious reader the opportunity to follow our progress, as we attempt to repeat in 2007, our championship quest in the Mid American racing series. Through this site, we will give updates after each race as we compete against some of the toughest competition located in the upper Midwest. My name is Jim Francisco, and I will be the principal contributor for this site, and on occasion, will attempt to persuade some of my co-workers to give guest editorials. I was asked and gladly accepted the role of contributing editor as I am the resident “race nut” here at Hankscraft. I have been following short track racing for many years, (decades); but walked away as a spectator and graduated to Cup racing as I thought that was more exciting. I still attend that racing program during speed weeks at Daytona Beach. I came back to the local short track programs when I owned a side business selling Winston Cup merchandise to race fans. Fast forward to June 30, 2006 and Hankscraft was courted by a relative of one of our officers, to be an associate sponsor on a Mid Am car. My boss Mark and I remarked; great but we were not familiar with the series. We dropped the request. Lucky for us, the requestor did not go away, and we were persuaded to sponsor the Berge Racing Chevrolet at the Slinger Nationals. One very fast week of developing a race logo for the hood, quick decals on the car on the night before the race and we were a race sponsor. Well, the rest is in the books as they say, and we set fast time and won the race in our division that July evening. We decided that we wanted to become more than an absent money sponsor and to that end we actively support the team and have made many new friends and acquaintances with the other teams and series sponsors. We fed off the team with our enthusiasm and they fed off of us with performance. Hankscraft hosted a customer appreciation race day at the Governors Cup held at the Milwaukee Mile in August, which by the way we also won with several of our customers in the stands. The team continued to prosper and won the championship in 2006. We are the proud primary sponsor on the Berge Racing entry for 2007. We urge you, your family and business to support your local short track program as that is where the next young Trickle, Kulwicki, Kennseth or Sauter race for your entertainment. In that spirit we urge you to go to a track near you to watch the Mid Am series. We believe you will see some of the closest and best racing in the Midwest.
